Cookie policy

This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies (like browser local storage) this site uses, in line with the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device to remember information between visits or requests. We also use browser local storage, which works similarly but is only ever read by this site and is never sent to our server automatically. Under UK PECR, both are treated the same way: anything not strictly necessary needs your consent first.

2. Strictly necessary storage — no consent needed

• zlx_consent (browser local storage) — remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so we do not have to ask on every page. Kept until you clear your browser data or change your choice. This is strictly necessary for the site to respect your cookie choice, so PECR does not require separate consent for it.

3. Analytics cookies — only load if you accept

If you click "Accept" on the cookie banner, we load Microsoft Clarity, which sets its own cookies to understand how visitors use this site — for example, which pages get read, where people click, and where they drop off. Clarity's cookies may include identifiers such as _clck, _clsk, CLID, ANONCHK, MR and SM, though Microsoft can add or change these. None of them are used for advertising, and none are shared with ad networks.

These only load after you consent, exactly as UK PECR Regulation 6 requires, and you can withdraw consent at any time — see section 5.

4. Cookies we do not use

We set no advertising or retargeting cookies, no social-media tracking pixels, and no cross-site behavioural profiling cookies. We do not sell data collected through cookies.

5. How to change your choice

Use the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of any page to reopen the banner and accept or decline analytics cookies. You can also block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings — every major browser has a guide for this in its help pages. Blocking strictly necessary storage may mean the cookie banner reappears on every visit, but it will not stop the rest of the site working.

6. Third-party cookies

Microsoft Clarity is the only third party that sets cookies through this site, and only once you consent. Microsoft's own cookie and privacy information is at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.

7. Your rights and further information

Because cookie data can include personal data, UK GDPR also applies to how we and Microsoft use it — see our Privacy Policy and your Data Rights. For general guidance on cookies and your rights, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) publishes consumer guidance at ico.org.uk.

8. Changes to this policy

If the cookies we use change — for example if we add a new tool — we will update this page and the "last updated" date above, and ask for fresh consent where the law requires it.
